Texas Judge Prophecies Civil War When Obama Re-Elected

Tom Head: Jim Crow Extremist.

Lubbock County Judge Tom Head, with the support of Lubbock County Commissioner Mark Heinrich, appeared on Lubbock’s Faux News affiliate to spread reactionary opinions reminiscent of the Jim Crow era this past week. Head stated: if re-elected President Obama is “going to try to hand over the sovereignty of the United States to the UN,” and that’s going to lead to “Civil unrest, civil disobedience, civil war maybe. And we’re not just talking a few riots here and demonstrations, we’re talking Lexington, Concord, take up arms and get rid of the guy.”  (See Head Video.)

As a Texan and Southerner, I’ve been hearing this Regressive redneck malarkey since the early days of the Civil rights movement. Head refrained from saying it would be a race war, but I’ve been hearing this trope from Texan champions of Jim Crow for most of my life. Typically, it goes “There’s going to be a race war in this country if the”–you know the word they use–then just fill in the blank according to current events. For the past five years it’s been “If Obama get’s re-elected, but it’s a common theme of racists all over the South and changes with current circumstances.I remember watching, as a child, the water cannons being directed against peaceful protesters in the streets of Mississippi and Alabama on the evening news and I remember hearing the same sort remarks from white Southerners in the living rooms and streets of Houston. They’ve been forecasting an impending civil war along racial lines since President Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights act during his first ninety days in office. It’s nothing new, merely updated.

As a writer and thinker, I think they may actually be onto something, but it will not be the race war they envision but a class war. After all class warfare has been going on for quite some time–successfully for the elites since the Reagan administration. With each passing year inequality grows and the haves seek to further distance themselves from the poverty and misery they inflict. Today, they are no longer satisfied with Mc Mansions on the right side of town. Instead they live in gated communities and drive soundproof Mercedes and BMWs so they can more easily ignore the world their greed creates.

So far the elites the GOP champions have succeeded in using racism as a weapon to keep the lower classes divided against themselves, implicit hatred of the poor to keep much of the middle class on their side, and the “War on Drugs” to disenfranchise people of color and the poor. But the election and impending re-election of Barrack Obama have thrown them into disarray. And the Regressives grow more shrill and hysterical as each day brings us closer to the moment when Barrack Obama wins a second term.

As a student of history, I fail to see how the elites can be so arrogant and avaricious as to ignore the lessons of the past. The import of the French and Bolshevik  revolutions are lost on this bunch who are–at least on paper–well educated and should know full well the ultimate outcome of class warfare. Yet, they are so blinded by their greed, hate, and sense of entitlement, they cannot see darkness waiting at the end of the path they have chosen. If history proves anything, it is: when reason fails unreason prevails. And I for one am damn tired of trying to reason with the unreasonable.

As for this writer, I’ve been expecting the bickering to end and the shooting to start for quite some time. In fact, I’ve almost come to look forward to it. For I remember the lessons of history, and theirs is a losing cause.

Who Would Jesus Hate?

“And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name.” Revelation 13:1-3.

And the beast called itself GOP and written upon its seven heads are: Avarice, Cowardice, Entitlement, Homophobia, Ignorance, Misogyny, and Racism. And the meek shall cry out in agony. And the beast shall be slain by the Lamb, in their name. And the beast's name shall be erased from the minds of men forever.
