Call for Submissions
Regressive Watch is looking for content contributors.
Are you a creative type? Are you a poet, writer, artist, musician, or photographer with a Progressive outlook?
Are you mad as hell at what the greedy, bigoted, and backward have done and continue to do to this fine country.
Do you believe leaders should work for the good of the people of this great country rather doing their best to sabotage the work of others in their lust for power?
Have you had enough of the distortions and outright lies of the Radical Right Faux News driven agenda.
Do you often find yourself wishing the world really would end just so you would never hear Glenn Beck again?
Do you have a gift for words and something you need to say?
Have you wrestled with the ravages of poverty and inequality rampant in our society?
Are you a student whose education is in jeopardy due to Regressive attempts to make education a luxury afforded only to those who live in gated communities?
Have you been a victim of the War on Drugs?
Have you read a book or seen a movie with a Progressive or Regressive theme you liked—or didn’t like—and wish to post review or response?
Are you a political cartoonist?
If Regressive policies have had a disastrous effect on your life and you want to fight back, then you, my friend, have come to the right—or should I say left—place?
Regressive Watch is looking for talented Progressives to contribute content. We are especially looking for folks who have unique perspective on our culture and those who have seen the rough edges of our society. Poets, writers, cartoonists, musicians, graphic artists—whatever your medium—we want to add our voice to ours.
We’re looking for formal essays of 750 – 2500 words in length with central focus which persuasively argues a single issue from a progressive POV. We prefer to avoid profanity and eschew ad hominem attacks.
Rather than attack individuals we seek to attack the ideology of the Right Wing. There are exceptions to this as when Right Wing figures make hateful remarks which reveal the underlying odious belief structures. Todd Akin’s “legitimate rape” and other similar remarks are certainly exceptions.
RW also publishes original research papers. When submitting a research paper, please remember all the rules of college research paper writing.
When it comes to poems and short fiction, the rules are a bit more relaxed to reflect the artistic nature of such efforts. But be advised poems and fiction are usually held to higher standards of writing and must have a progressive theme or message.
When writing for RW, please keep in mind the lessons of college freshman composition courses regarding style and structure.
Conjunctions such as “don’t” are perfectly acceptable.
Avoid excessive use of the exclamation (!) punctuation mark. Used occasionally it’s effective. Use it too much and it loses its power.
Use the word for numbers smaller than 100 and the Arabic numerals for larger numbers.
Please use the serial comma as in: apples, oranges, and bananas.
Each item should include a teaser about 150 to 250 characters long for the item listing on the home index page. This teaser should be compelling and make the visitor want to read, hear, or watch the piece.
Please submit written works in Word *.doc or *.rtf format with images as attachments not embedded in the document.
Use Arial, Verdana, Century Gothic or another san serif font. Please do not submit documents in Times Roman! It’s one the hardest fonts to read on screen and our editors will not suffer through it.
Manuscripts should have the author’s name. email address, social media page, and word count at the top left. Manuscripts should be Double-Spaced!
Strunk & White Elements of Style is the official RW style guide.
Please download the Writer’s Guidelines Download *.pdf for quick reference.
Editorial Policies: We will do light editing only. This includes correcting grammatical and spelling errors and changing passive voice to active voice where possible.
Submit graphics as email attachments in a standard format such as *.jpg, *.gif, *.png or as a Photoshop document *.psd.
Submit Audio/Video as email attachments or YouTube links with embed code.
We make every reasonable effort to promote our writers’ and artists’ work. We also expect our writers and artists to champion their own works. Please do post links to your works wherever you think they may be appreciated. Please don’t use links to the RW site in any form of SPAM.
That said please be aware of the following:
- We give preferential treatment to the pieces that receive the most positive attention using Facebook Likes as the metric.
- We place ad graphics to pieces which have fallen below the fold are not too topical in the right and left sidebar ad spaces as time and space allow.
- We share new pieces on our Facebook fan pages and the groups where we’re active.
- We may use Facebook ads to promote selected pieces. (If you wish to promote posts using Facebook ads you may contact us about doing so and we will provide the necessary assistance for accomplishing this. Did you know you can promote a post from your personal page to everyone in your friends list for only $6.99.)
- We may promote selected pieces in our AdWords advertising campaigns as budget permits. (If you wish to help promote the site and your work by donating to the AdWords budget, let us know.)
If you think you have something important to say with a Progressive edge, then please send us a sample of your work. No matter what media you work in, we want to see what you’ve got. Send a sample of your work to: firstname.lastname@example.org. We’d love to have a look.
Important Note: In order to publish and credit a contributor’s work, the content creator, meaning you, must register with the RW site by using User Accounts > Register from the submenu or click the Register link on the User Accounts login page.
